Forbes: What Is Conductive Hearing Loss?

Conductive hearing loss occurs when sound isn’t able to travel efficiently through the outer and/or middle ear to the inner ear. It can happen due to a number of reasons, including blockages in the ear canal, problems with the eardrum or ossicles (the tiny bones in the middle ear) or the presence of fluid in the middle ear.


While not the most common type of hearing loss among adults, conductive hearing loss is the most common type of hearing loss among children. Fortunately, conductive hearing loss is usually temporary and can be reversed with proper treatment from a hearing health professional. However, it’s important to know the signs and symptoms so you can get the help you need as soon as possible.
